Ask a Pakistani household in Bradford, Slough or Glasgow what never lasts long in the kitchen, and a jar of mixed achaar usually comes up. The 1 kg jar of National Mixed Pickle costs Rs 680 on a Karachi grocery shelf, while British online grocers charge £2.99 or more for the same jar. Qrrier is the app that closes that gap. A person already flying out of Karachi, Lahore or Islamabad carries the jar, the buyer pays less than a UK shop, and the traveller is paid instantly in USDC at the handover.
Three groups, one suitcase
- Travellers turn spare baggage allowance into money, paid in USDC the moment the delivery is confirmed.
- Senders move a parcel abroad for far less than express courier rates, and usually faster, because the box flies on the same plane as its carrier.
- Shoppers buy at Pakistani, Japanese, American or Gulf shelf prices instead of paying import mark-ups at home.
What a jar of achaar really costs
We checked both markets on 31 October 2026:
- Pakistan: Rs 680 for the 1 kg jar at Esajee’s, a Karachi grocery chain.
- United Kingdom: £2.99 at Lajawab, the lowest UK online price we found. Other UK shops list it at £3.29 to £3.49.
A Qrrier order is priced in two layers. The shopper pays the shelf price plus 20% as the traveller’s reward, and a 5% service fee is added on top of that total, so the shopper pays 1.26 times the shelf price. At the latest exchange rate, one jar comes to about £2.31. Three jars cost about £6.94 instead of £8.97 at the cheapest UK shop, a saving of roughly 23%, and the traveller earns around Rs 408 (about £1.10) for a few kilos of space.
The same box by courier
Now compare an express courier. DHL Express Pakistan’s public 2026 rate guide lists $128.80, about £96, for a 3.5 kg non-document parcel to the UK. That is the base rate, before the fuel surcharge, duty and handling fees, so a small parcel of jars costs more than ten times what is inside it. FedEx express rates on this lane are in the same range. Many courier counters also refuse homemade food outright.
How the instant USDC payout works
Other traveller platforms make carriers wait. Grabr’s help pages, for example, mention payouts of 3 to 15 business days. On Qrrier the order runs like this:
- The shopper places the full amount, converted to USDC (a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar), into escrow before any shopping happens.
- The traveller sees the locked funds and only then buys the jars.
- They meet after landing, the shopper checks the jars and the receipt, then shares a short code from the app.
- The traveller enters the code and the reward lands in their wallet instantly, with no clearing period.
Sending a parcel instead of shopping
Some people only need a box carried. The sender and the traveller agree on a reward between themselves. The sender pays that reward plus 15%, and the traveller keeps 95% of it. For example, a Lahore family might settle on £35 for someone to take a 2 kg box of wedding clothes to Manchester. They pay £40.25 and the traveller receives £33.25. DHL’s base rate for the same 2 kg box to the UK is $103.66, about £77, before surcharges, so the family pays roughly 48% less.
Travellers also take things that courier companies dislike:
- Homemade food, such as a mother’s mango achaar, nimco for Eid guests or dry masala blends. Declare all food to UK Border Force and leave meat and dairy at home.
- Jewellery, such as gold bangles for a mehndi or a nikah ring someone left behind.
- Original documents, such as attested degrees for a UK employer or original NADRA paperwork.
Shopping from anywhere, not only Pakistan
The UK route is one of many. Qrrier shoppers in Pakistan ask travellers to bring skincare from Seoul, sneakers from New York or electronics from Dubai at local prices. Qrrier travellers fly between Karachi, Riyadh, Toronto, Sydney and Kuala Lumpur, and to Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, Morocco and South Africa. Prohibited and hazardous items are not allowed. Any traveller can say no to a job, and buyer and carrier review one another once it’s done.
