Survival Depends on Power

From hundred of years ago  till the contemporary era of 21st century ,  power has been the deciding factor that who will rule the world . The powerful states set the rules of the game and dictate the world as per their own benefits. The lessons of history are the clear examples that how important power is for the survival of a state . Let’s have a glance at Ancient Greek society in 400 B.C where a great power called Athen  was a hegemon among its surrounding city states . Athens once asked Melos , a small Island, to join their empire or get ready for the war . The Melians who believed in morality and equality believed that they had done nothing wrong so why would someone will attack them . Also the were optimistic that their allies would come to save them if attacked by Athens . However, their Island was captured by the mighty Athenians and were annexed into their empire. Thucydides then rightly said “ the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must”.  He was not praising the Athens rather warning the world about the sufferings of being weak . This idea is still intact today’s world in the form of well known political philosophy of Realism . Same is the case in 20th century world order . The United States after both the world wars emerged  victorious and the sole Super power of the world . It acquired leverage on economic systems and an strong military making other countries bow down in front of it . Even after the destructive World War II  when International organisations were established to maintain peace , power was the only factor to safeguard sovereignty and ensure survival . Number of events are witness to this fact . The United States invasions of Vietnam, Iraq , Afghanistan, Libya , Venezuela and now Iran emphasise the need to acquire power . Similarly , the Israeli genocidal war is Gaza which had killed around 60 thousand innocent civilians is another example that power is only factor that dictates the world . The people of Gaza suffered this because that had not advance weapons. If Hamas had advanced weapons to resist rather than fighting a conventional war they could bring Israel on its knees . So the question may arise what kind of power is being asked to acquire ? Is this going to be the economic power ? Although economic power is important to stay relevant in the global world order, but we see the helplessness of the economic giants of the world . The KSA and UAE even being economic Giants could not protect their countries from Iranian attacks on their Soil targeting U.S military bases . Hence it is clear from the fact that economic power alone is not the deterrence rather a great military and advance weapons make a country to save their sovereignty. The ongoing U.S and Israel’s war on Iran Should awaken the countries that no one is going to help you for your survival . The countries must be strong enough by their own to protect their sovereignty. If Iran did not build such a great missile and drone system . Its regime would have been collapsed within a few days. The fact that Iran is Showing resistance because it has the capacity to protect its homeland from foreign aggressors rejecting  its right to exist . So, the hypocrisy  of the west particularly the U.S is clearly visible ,  Teaching others the lessons of democratic values and human rights and killing civilians and innocent girls by themselves. The world should no longer fall in the  western trap of Liberal values . Each state must take necessary measures to protect itself from the outside attacks and invasions. As Ronald Reagan describe it “ peace through strength ” men’s if you want peace make yourself strong enough to prevent aggression .The countries which still do not learn lessons from the past wars and invasions may lose their sovereignty or even their territory.
